Building caring neighborhoods

The municipality of Nuenen, Archipel, LEV group, Helpt Elkander, Woonzorg Nederland and Stichting Buurthuis Gastvrij have signed a letter of intent to maintain and, where possible, improve welfare, housing and Health in the neighborhood. The parties are joining forces to ensure that people in Nuenen can grow old more pleasantly. They want to work together on a healthy and engaged Nuenen where residents can live independently for as long as possible in a safe, accessible living environment and an inclusive community where people are there for each other.

The collaboration rests on four pillars:

1. Community as the basis: The basis of the social network lies in the community, the resident's immediate environment. We explore what the strengths of the environment are and strengthen the potential already present.

2. Meet and greet: Get to know each other and take home friendships. We look for and realize a place in the area where people can meet each other according to the vision of Foundation Meet & Greet: meaningful togetherness brings one's own social network to growth and flourish. We start with this in the center where we are looking for a suitable space to start until a space is available. In Nuenen-Zuid we start in Buurthuis Gastvrij in Jo van Dijkhof.

3. Prevention and information: Prevention is the best cure. We are making the shift from granting Health to focusing on health and behavior to prevent people from becoming dependent on Health as they age.

4. At home if you can: The starting point is to live at home as long and as independently as possible. If Health is needed, we offer it integrally. Continuing to live independently at home may also mean, in some situations, that a person moves to a home more suited to their stage of life.

The intention to work together should lead to a cooperation agreement within two years.
