Volunteer Awards 2022 for Jules Berkvens and Kees Braat

During the municipal New Year's Meeting on Monday evening, January 2, 2023, Alderman Niels Wouters presented the annual volunteer awards at Het Klooster in Nuenen.

Youth ribbon 2022

The 2022 youth ribbon went to Jules Berkvens.

Jules is 16 years old and a real jack-of-all-trades. He helps his grandparents and other (elderly) people in his neighbourhood by repairing locks, taking care of animals, delivering groceries, working in the garden and various other odd jobs. He also accompanies his grandfather annually at the liberation commemoration in Nuenen. He does all this independently. He is a real doer who has an eye for his fellow man.

That is why Jules was awarded the 2022 Youth Ribbon. He also received a check worth 150 euros.

Volunteer of the Year 2022

The award for volunteer of the year 2022 went to Mr. Kees Braat.

In the past, Kees was a soccer coach with the youth of RKSV Nuenen. Nowadays he does his bit for the Nuenen community as a whole. For example, in the summer he takes care of the plants on the lampposts in the city center, clears snow in the winter, and is socially active in the municipality throughout the year.

That is why Kees was named Volunteer of 2022. He received a statuette from the hands of the Alderman. He also received a check worth 1,000 euros to spend on a charity in Nuenen municipality of his choice.

Annual volunteer awards

Recognizing and appreciating volunteer work is important to the municipality of Nuenen. The municipality therefore presents the Volunteer Award every year to residents who have provided a special volunteer service. For young volunteers the municipality of Nuenen will award the youth ribbon from 2021. In this way, the municipality wants to give young people an extra incentive to do voluntary work.

The awards are a symbolic token of appreciation for all volunteers in the municipality. The independent jury evaluates the nominations and ultimately chooses the volunteers of the year.
