Moving abroad

Make an appointment

If you spend at least 8 months within 1 year abroad then this is considered emigration, even if you keep your home in the Netherlands. This does not have to be a continuous period.

You are required to report your emigration in person at the town hall within 5 days before leaving the Netherlands. Make an appointment to do so .

Bring

During your appointment, we will note your residential address abroad. Don't have a permanent address yet? Then provide the address where you will be staying first.

If someone stays behind at your current residential address in Nuenen, then anyone emigrating must appear at the counter in person.

Communicating Emigration

If no one remains behind at the current residential address in Nuenen, the following persons may report an emigration.

Note: It is important here that the person passing on the emigration also emigrates with them

  • Anyone 16 years of age or older for themselves (at 16/17, parents may do so).
  • Cohabiting spouses/registered partners for each other.
  • For minor children: the parent, guardian or caregiver.
  • For resident perennial children: parents.
  • For live-in parents, adult children may report the move.
  • The trustee for someone under guardianship.

Declaration of emigration by an agent is not possible.

Government agencies

We pass on your departure abroad to other government agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Pension Service and Water Board.

Proof of relocation

At the end of your visit, we will check the information you provided and send you (preferably by e-mail) a proof of deregistration.

Extract from BRP (for contents).

When you emigrate, customs may ask you for a certificate of clearance to transport your household contents and personal belongings. You will need a BRP for this purpose. You can request this from the municipality of Nuenen up to and including the day of departure. Ask about this during your appointment or request the extract online

After your departure date, this extract can only be requested at an RNI counter.

Arranging for emigration

What you need to arrange when you emigrate depends on your destination country. Consult the checklist from the rijksoverheid with things you need to arrange before leaving the Netherlands.

Good to know: deregistering abroad may affect your rent allowance, any student loans, future benefits and your taxes.
