Launch 'On the right track' campaign
The campaign 'Hazardous substances by rail? Have the risks figured out!" in municipalities along the railroad in North and Southeast Brabant. The campaign lasts for 4 weeks. The campaign promotes the self-reliance of people living, working, studying or staying near the railroad during the first fifteen minutes after an incident.
Rail freight traffic is increasing in our region in the coming years. Among these goods are hazardous materials. The risk of a rail incident is small. However, the consequences of an incident can be major. The emergency services and municipalities consider it important that residents know how to act if things go wrong. Therefore, municipalities in the Safety Region Brabant-Zuidoost and Safety Region Brabant-Noord work together to inform residents and people who work, study and stay around the railroad about what to do in case of an incident with hazardous substances. This is risk communication at a time when nothing is happening.
It makes people aware and prompts thought. With this we promote people's self-reliance during the first 15 minutes after an incident. After that, the emergency response is initiated and the emergency services and municipality indicate how people should proceed.
Review campaign
The campaign was first deployed in 2019 and then repeated several times. Emergency services and municipalities believe it is important to continue to bring this issue to the attention of residents, which is why the campaign is now being followed up again.
Over a 4-week period, people who live, work, study or stay near the railroad will see messages on their social media accounts. During the campaign weeks, a portion of the target audience will receive a physical information card outlining what to do best in the event of an incident. Municipalities make their own choice in distribution.
