Smoke detectors are mandatory as of July 1
As of July 1, 2022, it is mandatory to hang smoke detectors in all homes in the Netherlands. It is important to have working smoke detectors on every floor in the house and to maintain them properly! This obligation has existed for some time for new construction houses, but now it will also apply to existing construction. It is also mandatory to install smoke detectors if you live in a rented house.
A smoke detector does not prevent a fire, but it beeps as soon as the detector comes into contact with smoke. You will thus receive an alert in the event of smoke or fire.
