Renovation The Monastery step closer: contractor and interior architect known
The renovation of cultural center Het Klooster in Nuenen is another step closer. After a successful tender, the contractor and interior architect are now known. Koninklijke Woudenberg is the building contractor and LA | Architecten Ingenieurs will work on the interior design of Het Klooster. On Friday, March 22, 2024, the parties ratified their collaboration.

Successful tenders
For the renovation of Het Klooster into a vibrant town hall for Nuenen associations and residents, the municipality of Nuenen was looking for an architectural contractor. Through a public tender, Koninklijke Woudenberg from Ameide eventually emerged as the winner. Now that the contractor is known, the building plans can be worked out in more detail. This will happen in the period up to the summer. After the summer, based on these plans, the official contract will be signed and from then on construction can begin. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
"Together with our partners Verstappen van Amelsvoort, Gabriëls Elektro and Croes Bouwtechnisch Ingenieursbureau, we are delighted to restore and renovate the beautiful Klooster van Nuenen, giving this monument a new future as a functional and sustainable cultural center. The close cooperation with the municipality of Nuenen is very pleasant, which contributes to the success of this special project." - Managing director André Köster (Royal Woudenberg)
Simultaneously with the tender for the contractor, the tender for the interior designer also took place. The winner was LA | Architecten Ingenieurs from Veghel. They are going to work on the design for the interior of Het Klooster, so that Het Klooster can be used as the intended community center. This month the interior architect will start working on the design. She does this together with the users of the building and the contractor.
"Our vision of the multifunctional use was assessed by Nuenen municipality as innovative and perfectly suited to the use by the various target groups. We paid attention to details that influence the experience of the users. We also focused on the reuse of materials. It is great that our vision is shared and our experience is rewarded. With pride and especially a lot of enthusiasm, Team LA is now going full steam ahead with the further elaboration." - Architect Anne-Marie Pors (LA / Architecten Ingenieurs)
Multifunctional cultural center
The Klooster needs to be thoroughly renovated. The need for extensive maintenance and preservation is then linked to the ambition to make Het Klooster a vibrant center for Nuenen residents. Het Klooster must also serve as a meeting place for the city council, theater, library and a place where associations can go for their activities. In other words: a social and cultural vibrant heart that invites to stay.
"I am happy that this important step has now been taken. Now we can really start preparing for the renovation of The Monastery and it will also become visible to everyone. On to a beautiful, sustainable and multifunctional village hall!" - Alderman Sandor Löwik (municipality of Nuenen)
