Cultural center Het Klooster in Nuenen is home to many associations in the municipality of Nuenen. The multifunctional building is outdated and is therefore being renovated. It will be a functional and sustainable building: a social and cultural vibrant heart in the center of Nuenen that invites to stay. The associations that have their home in the Klooster, will soon have optimal facilities for their activities and work intensively together in Vereniging Het Klooster. Vereniging Het Klooster takes care of the management and exploitation of the village house, in which the social function comes first.

September 2026 Update: Completion of Renovation

Ons Klooster is scheduled to open on November 1, 2026. In the coming period, efforts will focus on completing the renovation work, relocating the occupants, furnishing the building, and further preparing for its operation.

Update July 20, 2026: Formal procedure for expanding hospitality use at Ons Klooster

Ons Klooster has been used for celebrations and parties for many years. This use has not yet been fully formalized in the environmental plan. For this reason, an application has been submitted to expand the hospitality use at Ons Klooster. The municipality is currently processing an application for an environmental permit for an environmental plan activity (OPA). During this process, the municipality will assess whether the application complies with the rules of the environmental plan.

Update June 2, 2026: Outcome of the preliminary injunction hearing: The municipality and the contractor will continue working to complete the Klooster project

The municipality of Nuenen and the contractor Koninklijke Woudenberg Ameide B.V. (KWA) have been in discussions for some time regarding the implementation of the Klooster renovation project. Late last year, a dispute over the execution of the work led the municipality to file for preliminary relief, with the aim of ensuring the project’s completion.

Outcome of the preliminary injunction proceedings

The preliminary injunction hearing took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Oost Brabant District Court in ’s-Hertogenbosch. 

The preliminary injunction proceedings have been stayed. This means that the proceedings have been temporarily postponed so that the parties can reach a mutual agreement. The municipality and KWA have therefore reached procedural agreements in the preliminary injunction proceedings to ensure the completion and handover of the Klooster in the coming weeks.

Both parties emphasize that they intend to bring the project to a successful conclusion while maintaining a constructive working relationship.

Update April 2, 2026: Date of the preliminary injunction hearing

The municipality of Nuenen is involved in summary proceedings with contractor KWA regarding the renovation of the Klooster. The summary proceedings will take place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Oost Brabant District Court in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Update February 5, 2026: City Launches Legal Action Against Contractor for Klooster Renovation

The renovation of Het Klooster is in full swing. We are aiming for a beautiful, well-renovated monastery that meets the requirements and wishes that we have drawn up together with the users.

A dispute has arisen between the contractor Koninklijke Woudenberg Ameide B.V. (KWA) and the municipality regarding the execution of the work on the monastery. KWA has informed the municipality that it is facing a delay of several months in the execution of the work on the monastery.

The Municipal Executive does not accept this. As it has not yet been possible to resolve the dispute with the contractor through consultation, we have decided to initiate legal proceedings.

All in all, this means that the planned completion date unfortunately cannot be met. 

We will post another update as soon as there are important developments in the legal proceedings.

Planning

  1. Still to come: Festive official opening—early 2027

    We hope to officially and festively open Our Monastery in early 2027.

  2. Upcoming: Inauguration of Ons Klooster - November 1, 2026

    Ons Klooster is scheduled to open on November 1, 2026.

  3. Still to be done: Migrate users to Ons Klooster—mid-October through November 1, 2026

    The future occupants of Ons Klooster will move into the renovated building in phases from mid-October 2026 through November 1, 2026.

  4. Currently in progress: Finalizing handover items + preparing for commissioning

    The contractor is currently addressing the issues identified during the final inspection. At the same time, preparations and work on the interior fit-out are continuing to ensure that the building can be put into service as planned on November 1, 2026.

  5. Completed: Handover of the renovated Klooster by the contractor - Completion date

    On August 28, 2026, the contractor handed over the renovated monastery to the municipality, and the municipality accepted it.

  6. Completed: Final interior design - April 2025

    The final design of the layout of the new Convent is ready.

  7. Completed: Start of renovation - January 2025

    The actual renovation of The Monastery began in early January 2025.

  8. Completed: Signing of the construction contract - December 2024

    Thursday, December 19, 2024, the municipality and Royal Woudenberg signed the official contracting agreement for the renovation of The Monastery. After the official signing moment, they together unveiled the construction sign at Het Klooster.

  9. Completed: Sale of Old Items - December 2024

    A number of "old" items from The Monastery have been collected by interested residents.

  10. Completed: Initial demolition work - mid-November 2024

    Starting Nov. 11, the first (light) demolition work will take place in preparation for the actual renovation of The Monastery.

  11. Completed: Open House at Het Klooster Temporalis - September 29, 2024

    Sunday, September 29, 2024 was the open day of the Monastery Temporalis. A busy, pleasant, inspiring afternoon in which all associations and users could present themselves. In the aftermovie you can see a short atmospheric report.

  12. Completed: Linden tree removed - September 2024

    On September 5, 2024, the linden tree in the central square in The Monastery was removed. Indeed, as a village house, The Monastery will have an open and accessible character where the atmosphere of hospitality is palpable. This openness will also be visible in the interior and at the entrance. In preparation we will remove a number of items from The Monastery, such as the reception desk and the lime tree. In consultation with the owner we are looking for possibilities to incorporate parts of the lime tree in the new interior.

  13. Completed: Relocation of users to Klooster Temporalis - April 2024

    All users of The Monastery have moved into their temporary housing location: The Monastery Temporalis.

  14. Completed: Tender process for contractor and interior architect completed - March 2024

    After a successful tender process, the contractor and interior designer have been announced: Koninklijke Woudenberg is the structural contractor and LA | Architecten Ingenieurs will work on the interior design of The Monastery.

  15. Completed: Pilot project launched - Summer 2023

    In the summer of 2023, Marcia van den Wildenberg was hired as (independent) quartermaster. She brings all parties in The Klooster together and stimulates and facilitates them to translate the desired social impact into cooperation, projects and activities.
