On January 22, during a special council meeting, the City Council adopted the profile for the new mayor of Nuenen c.a.. The Commissioner of the King, Mrs. I.R. Adema received it from the hands of the chairman of the confidentiality committee, Mrs. D.M. van Wessel. 

The profile is a comprehensive job description. It states what kind of municipality Nuenen is, what challenges and tasks lie ahead, and what we expect from our new mayor. 

In order to get a picture of what kind of mayor would best suit Nuenen, the Committee on Confidential Matters also collected information outside the town hall. In addition to the members of the Municipal Executive and cooperation partners in the region, 353 residents of Nuenen also let the committee know what they consider important. The Confidential Committee notes that the residents' top 3 important areas of interest correspond to their top 3! This shows that the council knows very well what is going on in the village and what the residents need. A summary of the responses can be read in the profile.

The selection process and appointment

The vacancy is now open and candidates have 3 weeks to apply. Then the province will obtain background information on the candidates and interviews will be held with the King's Commissioner. After that, the Committee on Confidentiality will be invited to the Province House to make their own judgments. The Commissioner's choices and those of the commission on confidence are compared side by side, and after a joint selection, the candidates are invited for an interview with the commission on confidence. 

The trust committee will recommend 2 candidates to the council in a closed council meeting. This meeting is expected to take place on June 23, 2025. A written secret ballot on the candidates will follow and immediately thereafter, in a public meeting, it will be announced who is nominated.

A screening of the candidate is then conducted by the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Finally, the appointment must be ratified by the King. 

Installation of new mayor in September

The installation and swearing in of the new mayor by the commissioner of the King will take place during a festive council meeting. We expect that to be on September 23, 2025.
