City council wants to engage residents with PDO

After the municipal election, the City Council decided to adopt a different meeting model: the BOB model.

There are three types of meetings:

1. an Image FormationEvening. This evening is designed to share information about upcoming topics. This can be done in various ways, such as with an expert presentation or a roundtable discussion.

2. a JudgmentEvening. During this meeting, council members can exchange preliminary views, and question each other and the Alderman about their positions.

3. a DecisionEvening, which is the council meeting as we know it today. During this meeting, council members can make motions and amendments and the council makes decisions.

Involving residents

The purpose of the new meeting model is to ensure that the City Council makes careful decisions in the public interest. An important part of this is for council members to weigh different interests. Therefore, the council wants to involve residents in decision-making and engage with residents.

In addition, citizens' right to speak will be improved. There will be more room for citizens to have their voices heard during the opinion-forming and judgmental evening. The right to speak at council meetings will disappear. Before each image-forming evening there will be a walk-in meeting with the council. Here you can exchange information or draw attention to a subject that is not on the agenda. During the picture forming evening you can ask (factual) questions and inform the council about the items on the agenda. During the judgment evening you can give your opinion.

Pilot new way of working

This new way of meeting is not only getting used to for the council members but also for you, as a resident of Nuenen. A new meeting model is not settled overnight, which is why we will continue to share important developments in the coming months. There will also be an evaluation at the end of this year, during which we would also like to hear your opinions. Keep an eye on the municipality's communication channels for this purpose.
