Participants sought for sounding board group heritage map Nuenen

The municipality of Nuenen is starting to update our heritage policy and heritage map. By drawing up a heritage memorandum and heritage map, we want to obtain the means to unlock the knowledge present and to comply with legal obligations. This will allow heritage to have an immediate place in developments in our municipality. For this project we are looking for people who want to share their knowledge with us, who want to think along with us about the choices we are going to make, but also critically.

Gathering knowledge for Heritage Map

The heritage map includes an archaeological expectations and values map and a cultural-historical values map. In order to conduct a careful heritage policy, we want to know what knowledge is available about our territory, what knowledge is lacking, the value of known archaeological and cultural-historical sites and remains, and where there is a chance that as yet unknown archaeological sites or cultural-historical values are present. This includes both the absence and presence of values and the extent to which this is the case or can be expected. Without sound knowledge, good Heritage Health is not possible.

Heritage Act and Omgevingswet

The ideas of the new Omgevingswet and the current Heritage Act form important ingredients of the new heritage memorandum and are normative for the principles for approaching and dealing with heritage. The Cultural Heritage Act lays down how cultural heritage is dealt with, who has what responsibility in this regard and how it is supervised. The Omgevingswet includes specific rules based on the municipality's duty of care to preserve cultural heritage.

Sounding Board

This project is being carried out by Ria Berkvens of the Omgevingsdienst Zuidoost Brabant (ODZOB) and Arie Ras of our municipality. The aim of the project is to obtain as much reliable information as possible for the preparation of the heritage map and input for the heritage document to be drawn up. Besides input of information we also ask for critical thinking and discussion about the heritage policy to be drawn up. To this end, a sounding board group will be established, which will be closely involved in the process.

The first meeting of the sounding board group, in which you will be informed about the purpose and usefulness of the heritage map and heritage memorandum to be drawn up, will take place in early April. At that time we will also inform you further about the process and follow-up. The meeting is intended primarily for participants with thorough and detailed area knowledge. It is about improving the already existing information on archaeology, monuments and cultural landscape. The information collected will serve as input for the new Heritage Map.
