What to do.
Did you just have a child? Congratulations!
By law, you must declare the birth of a child within 3 days in the municipality where the child was born. You can declare digitally or by appointment.
Digital birth declaration
You can only report the birth digitally if a midwife from a Nuenen midwife practice was present.
Online birth registration is possible if any of the following situations apply to you:
- You are married or in a registered partnership
- You are married or in a registered partnership as duo mothers and the child was recognized before birth
- You acknowledged the child before birth
- No other parent is known
Once the declaration is processed, the mother receives a summary of the recorded data and the child's Citizen Service Number from the residential municipality where she is registered.
To file a digital tax return, you will need:
- DigiD
- If applicable deed of acknowledgment of unborn child or deed of choice of name
Birth registration by appointment
You can make a Make an appointment appointment by phone at 040-2631631. During the appointment, the father or mother will declare the birth in person. If this is not possible, someone who was present at the birth must make the declaration. More information can be found on the rijksoverheid website.

If the last declaration day falls on a holiday, you can still file the declaration on the next business day.
After birth, the child's information is processed in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP).
The child's personal ID number is sent to the child's parent(s).
What do I need?
- A valid ID of yourself and the child's parent(s);
- A marriage or partnership booklet (if you have one);
- If the child was recognized before birth: the deed of recognition (unborn) child;
- signed birth certificate by the midwife or physician;
- if you want to choose the child's last name, the mother must also be present at the appointment.

Birth registration is free of charge.
