Silver medal of honor for local history society De Drijehornick
On Saturday afternoon, May 14, 2022, at 2:15 p.m., heemkundekring De Drijehornick received the silver medal of honor from the municipality of Nuenen. Alderman Ralf Stultiëns presented the medal and certificate during the celebration of the 50th anniversary in Het Klooster, Park 1 in Nuenen.
Heemkundekring De Drijehornick was founded in 1971 and the name Drijehornick is a spelling of the local toponym Driehurk, which means triangle. The name symbolizes the three villages of the municipality of Nuenen. The cultural history society De Drijehornick is committed to preserving the cultural heritage in the municipality of Nuenen, Gerwen and Nederwetten. At the 40th anniversary celebrations, the association received the medal of honor in bronze.
Gemology, from the word heem, is the study of one's environment. Hematology falls under intangible cultural heritage and includes all sciences at the local or regional level. Research can focus on history, for example, archaeology, geography, demography and so on.
Heemkundekring De Drijehornick undertakes various activities, such as organizing the annual Open Monument Day, lectures and there are several working groups. Through various activities, the society wants to increase and spread knowledge and interest in local history and culture. With this silver municipal award, the city council, in the name of all inhabitants in general and for the 280 members of Heemkundekring De Drijehornick in particular, wants to express its appreciation and gratitude.
