Work on waterways in Nuenen

At the beginning of February, work will be carried out at various locations in Nuenen along waterways, such as ditches, streams, and ponds, and on the adjacent green strips. The Water Board recently concluded that the waterways and maintenance paths in several places within the built-up area of Nuenen have become heavily overgrown. This makes regular maintenance difficult to impossible and creates risks for water quality, flow, and ecology.

Due to the dense vegetation:

  • Is maintenance with machines no longer feasible?
  • Is the watercourse silting up in some places, particularly at culverts?
  • Organic material accumulates, which can lead to unpleasant odors and possible fish mortality;
  • Is it difficult to remove fallen trees, which poses risks to water drainage?
  • Causes odor and rat nuisance for local residents.

We want to make maintenance possible again and prevent further deterioration of the situation. That is why we are creating space for maintenance on one side of the waterways. Contractor Jos Bouw is doing this in collaboration with the municipality and on behalf of the Water Board. The contractor is removing wood storage and shrubbery and pruning trees, where necessary, to a minimum height of 6 meters. The verge will be sown with grass and managed as a verge from now on, so that it remains free of wood. The sowing will take place when the temperature is higher.

The work will be carried out in phases. Some of the locations will be completed in early February over the course of a week. The rest will be done next year, depending on scheduling and available time.

The work will take place on and around:

  • Hairdresser's Lane
  • White Well
  • Frog path
  • Arnold Pootlaan – Zuiderklamp
  • Geldropsedijk

During the work, there may be some temporary inconvenience, for example due to the use of machinery or limited accessibility. We will do our best to keep this inconvenience to a minimum and thank you for your understanding.
