The renovated Princess Marijke Bridge in the Park is being installed

On Monday, July 20, the renovated Princess Marijke Bridge will be installed in the park. The old bridge was no longer safe and was therefore removed earlier.

The new bridge will be a modern and sustainable version of the original bridge. Meerdink Bruggen, based in Winterswijk, developed the design in collaboration with the municipality. Old photographs of the Prinses Marijke Bridge were used for this purpose. The bridge’s recognizable shape and appearance from the past will thus be reflected in a new, sturdy bridge.

The existing sections around the bridge have also been renovated. Jansen Masonry, based in Son, repaired the masonry. Clean Service Nuenen performed the jointing work.

The handrail is made of Corten steel and will continue to change color after installation. Rain and other weather conditions will gradually create the characteristic rust-brown protective layer. This process is expected to last throughout the fall and possibly into part of the winter, depending on the amount of rain.

After installation, the path in the park will be accessible again to walkers.
