Spatial Adaptation Implementation Plan

The climate is changing. In the Netherlands this is leading to higher temperatures, more (extreme) precipitation, drier summers and a rising sea level. Because of its location, the municipality of Nuenen is not directly affected by rising sea levels. However, increasing heat, drought and flooding do have adverse effects on the municipality.

Implementation plan provides direction for action

Nuenen must be water-robust and climate-proof by 2050. This requires efforts from everyone, not just the government. To achieve this, climate dialogues have been held with stakeholders (associations, organizations, businesses) within Nuenen. With them, a prioritization was made regarding vulnerabilities and the urgency with which they must be addressed. These vulnerabilities have been leading in the preparation of an implementation plan. The measures it contains are still mainly directional and must be worked out in more detail.

Results implementation plan

The implementation plan indicates that studies must first take place before proceeding with physical measures. Some studies will be taken up as early as 2022 because there is already budget available for them. This mainly concerns inventories of:

  • natural cooling
  • biodiversity
  • climate resilience municipal green space
  • severe and undesirable flooding bottlenecks (new Basic Sewerage Plan)
  • co-opting opportunities

Based on the results, further plans are drawn up and implementation in existing and new plans takes place.

Report

The Implementation Plan first describes how the report was created. Then the solution directions and goals for 2030 are described. The report concludes with a list of measures.

Bottleneck map

The bottleneck map consists of Maps showing where bottlenecks are located for three climate trends (heat, drought and flooding). In addition, another Map is available showing where there are opportunities to expand already planned projects with climate-adaptive measures.
