Eindhoven-Helmond express bicycle route

update february 17, 2025:

In the week of Feb. 24, 2025, preparatory work will begin on the final section of the express bike path between Helmond and Eindhoven, between Eeneind (Nuenen) and Loostraat (Eindhoven).

Trees and shrubs on the route will be removed, outside the breeding season. We then take measures to reduce impacts on animals.

Construction will likely begin in September or October 2025. Depending on weather and progress, the express bike path will be completed in late 2025 or early 2026. Read more in the news release below.

Update June 13, 2024:

The F270 express bicycle route was officially opened Wednesday afternoon, June 12. Read more in the news release below.

Between Eindhoven and Helmond there will be an express bicycle route with a total length of 13.7 kilometers. This safe and comfortable bicycle connection will run almost entirely parallel to the railroad line between Eindhoven and Helmond and will save users a lot of time. The entire route is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Route of express bike path

The bike route begins on the north side of the tracks at Eindhoven Central Station. From the city, the route runs to the Collse Hoefdijk. The route then goes through green surroundings past the Gulbergen estate with its golf course and Dierenrijk zoo. Via Geldrop and Mierlo, the route continues via the north side of the railroad and via the new bicycle bridge over the Zuid-Willemsvaart to Helmond Central Station.

Planning realization of express bike path

We realize the entire express bicycle route together with the province of North Brabant and the municipalities of Eindhoven, Helmond and Geldrop-Mierlo.

Several sections of the express bicycle route have been constructed in recent years. The section between the Collse Hoefdijk and Vaarleseweg is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The section between Collse Hoefdijk and Kleine Dommel in mid-2024.

Municipality of Eindhoven is realizing the construction of the alignment between Eindhoven Central Station and the Collse Hoefdijk. At the end of November 2021 work started on the service road of the Professor Doctor Dorgelolaan in Eindhoven. After that, the remaining parts of the route will be constructed from the Kleine Dommel to the Collse Hoefdijk in Nuenen.

Municipality of Helmond realizes the route between Helmond Central Station and the Collse Hoefdijk. With the construction in 2020 of a bicycle bridge over the canal at the Vlisco and De Cacaofabriek, the express bicycle route on the territory of the municipality of Helmond will be completed. The municipality of Helmond will now proceed with the last part of the route from the Vaarleseweg to the Collse Hoefdijk. Here the bike path connects to the route being constructed from Eindhoven.

The Municipality of Nuenen is in charge of the planning procedures and will take care of the necessary land purchases. The (preliminary) designs have been explained to the direct residents and the Eeneind neighborhood council.

In the week of February 24, 2025, preparatory work started on the construction of the last part of the express bike path between Helmond and Eindhoven. It concerns the part between the streets Eeneind in Nuenen and the Loostraat in Eindhoven (parallel to the railroad).

Actual construction of the express bike path is expected to begin in September or October 2025. Depending on weather conditions and progress, we expect the express bike path to be in use in late 2025 or early 2026.

Designing route

The final designs of the express bike path for the route section from Eindhoven can be viewed on the website of the Municipality of Eindhoven.

Vaarleseweg
At the level of Vaarleseweg, the bicycle path will be extended along the track towards Collse Hoefdijk.

Design 6 relates to the part of the route that runs across the territory of Nuenen. Between Loostraat and Eeneind there will be a new stretch of bike path north of the railroad. This will run over a new bicycle bridge over the small Dommel. The bike path is 4 metres wide, with the exception of the last part near Eeneind, where it is 3.5 metres wide.

What is an express bicycle route?

On an express bicycle route, cyclists have the right of way as much as possible and ride on flat asphalt almost everywhere. Because you are not hindered by other traffic, you can cycle along comfortably. This makes getting to your destination easier, safer and faster.

This express bicycle route is part of a network of express bicycle routes in the province of Brabant. They connect towns and villages, work locations and recreational facilities. For more information, visit the Sjees website.

What will the Eindhoven-Helmond express bicycle route deliver?

Now if you bike from Eindhoven Central Station to Helmond Central Station, you go via Opwettenseweg and Nuenen Zuid or via Geldrop. So you have to detour by bicycle. The express cycle route follows a shorter route - directly along the railroad - making your ride approximately four kilometers shorter. This makes cycling more attractive, also because the entire route has been designed in such a way that you can easily continue cycling.

Even if you cycle only part of the route, for example on your way to school, work or facilities, you will benefit from the express bicycle route. Because of the equipment, layout and right of way rules, you cycle safely, quickly and comfortably.

Why an Eindhoven-Helmond express bicycle route?

The express bicycle route improves accessibility and increases traffic safety for cyclists. It motivates commuters to cycle to work more often and recreational cyclists to visit cities and towns by bicycle. This is a healthy and sustainable mode of transportation that we would like to encourage
