Closure of home on Irene Street after drug discovery

On November 11, 2024, the mayor closed a residence on Irene Street, for a period of 6 months, due to the discovery of hard drugs. The municipality is doing this under Article 13b of the Opium Act and the municipal Damocles policy.

During an earlier inspection in the home, the police found a trade quantity of hard drugs.

As a municipality, we consider a safe residential and living environment important. That is why the mayor is cracking down on drug crime.

Not just risk to those directly affected

We cannot emphasize the risks of drug trafficking and or use often enough. Even for individuals who are not directly involved in drug trafficking, but who live or have a business on the premises where the police detect drugs. You run the risk of having your home or business premises closed down, with all the consequences that entails.

Another possible measure: dissolution of the lease agreement

Is the property where the drugs or hemp is found rented by the owner to an individual or business? Then the owner can decide to dissolve the lease. This is possible even if the tenant himself does not have anything directly to do with the hemp or drugs. This means that the tenant may never return to the property.
