Demolition of Vinkenhofjes started: 61 homes make way for 137 new ones

After years of preparation, it is now really starting: the demolition of 61 homes in the Vinkenhofjes in Nuenen-Zuid started Monday, September 22. With this Helpt Elkander is making room for 137 modern, life-long social rental apartments.

Since 2019 Helpt Elkander has been working together with residents and neighbors, the municipality of Nuenen, KAW, construction company Hurks and De Loods on the plans for the new construction of the Vinkenhofjes. After a careful process of designs, participation and procedures, the time has now come to take the first visible step: demolition.

With the demolition crane

The first act of demolition was performed by Sylvester Putters, director-director of Helpt Elkander and Patrick Kok, Alderman Wonen of the municipality of Nuenen. With the demolition crane they removed part of the masonry of the gallery at the Geelvinkhof.

"This is an important moment for Nuenen as well as for Helpt Elkander," says Sylvester Putters. "We have been looking forward to this step for a long time. The Vinkenhofjes is a very big redevelopment project for us, one we are enormously proud of. Here we are adding quite a lot of rental housing to our social housing stock. And we are making a lot of house seekers happy with that."

Alderman Kok is also pleased that things are finally about to begin: 'Within our municipality, too, the need for new housing and, in particular, social housing for rent is great. We notice this all too well as a municipality. I am therefore very pleased that we will soon be meeting this demand with the new Vinkenhofjes. Here's to a prosperous construction process!

In a green environment

The new construction, which will begin in early 2026, will consist of 137 homes, divided into 43 two-bedroom apartments and 94 three-bedroom apartments. At the Vinkenhofjes, Helpt Elkander is committed to adding smaller, lifelong and care-appropriate homes that are affordable and suitable for multiple target groups. "We are building here for seniors and other one- and two-person households. Close to the Kernkwartier shopping center, a health center and the meeting space Neighborhood House Gastvrij; this is an extremely convenient location for seniors," Putters said. The buildings are located in park-like, green surroundings.

Planning

Demolition work will take place in the coming months. Construction work is expected to start early next year. Completion of the homes is scheduled for 2027.
