Working together on an Energy Hub in Nuenen

Grid congestion is causing entrepreneurs in Nuenen to increasingly run up against the limits of the power grid. This can hinder your plans for growth, electrification or sustainability. The municipality of Nuenen and Brainport Development are therefore investigating, together with local entrepreneurs, how an energy hub can contribute to smart, collective solutions that can offer your company a future perspective.

What has been done so far?

All major consumers of electricity are in Map and the mutual network structure (topology) was examined. This shows which companies are technically connected to each other and therefore qualify for energy sharing. We then started a feasibility study among an initial group of companies. We have drawn up a step-by-step plan on the basis of which we can investigate together with the companies whether participation in an energy hub is interesting for them.

Where are we now?

Based on the network structure, we approached the companies in one specific network cluster with the question whether they would like to share their quarterly consumption data. This data is now being collected and analyzed.

Highlights session on joint Energy Hub

In the summer of 2025, several companies from business park Eeneind Zuid met to explore how to make smarter use of the limited energy available. It was an inspiring and constructive session in which, together with Brainport Development, important steps were taken toward a joint Energy Hub. The main discussion points:

  • Cause and Background - explanation of the current grid congestion situation:
    • Why can't I get extra capacity?
    • When can I share energy with my neighbor?
  • Situation on Eeneind South - the bottlenecks companies experience here when growing or supplying back renewable energy:
    • When can the grid not handle my growth (anymore)?
  • Individual analysis - each participant gained insight into their own energy situation:
    • When do I consume too much and how much space do I have left?
  • Collective profile - In addition, an initial joint analysis was conducted and discussed. This revealed the effects of cooperation and energy sharing:
    • How can I and my neighbor use available energy more efficiently?
  • Group Transportation Agreement (GTO). - explaining how this tool works, how the amount is determined and what the benefits are for companies that want to jointly use their transmission capacity.
    • What do I need to arrange and how do I do it?

Follow-up meeting

Soon we will organize another meeting with this group of companies in which we will go into further depth through mathematical models and simulations. The goal is to develop a working approach in Nuenen where entrepreneurs can start sharing energy together. Is this successful? Then we want to scale up this approach to other clusters of companies in our municipality.

This is how we continue to work together to create a business park that is ready for the future!

Also interesting for your company?

The possibilities of energy sharing and collaboration are important for the future-proofing of businesses: reduced dependence on the local grid.
