Environment Program Rural Area
We have now been working on the Rural Areas Environmental Program for over a year. This program sets the direction for developments in our rural areas for the coming years. The Environmental Program is one of the most important cornerstones of the Environmental Plan, which is still to be drafted.
What have we done so far?
We organized four meetings to gather as much information and as many ideas as possible.
- We began with a meeting for all municipal employees. We discussed the issues and challenges facing rural areas.
- After that, we spoke with 25 agricultural entrepreneurs (farmers) about what they need to run their businesses in Nuenen.
- We then spoke with 14 participants from the focus group. Anyone interested in rural areas was welcome to join.
- Finally, we spoke with 11 stakeholders in the area. Stakeholders are representatives of interest groups and local governments.
We have incorporated the information from these meetings into a Policy Statement. This document sets out the key principles for the program. The Mayor and Aldermen have adopted this statement. We then discussed the statement with the City Council during an exploratory council meeting.
Does this settle everything?
No, definitely not. The Statement of Principles is the starting point for drafting the first version of the environmental program.
Following the initial meetings, we decided to include the nature areas of the Brabant Nature Network in the program’s scope. We do not expect many changes in these nature areas. Nevertheless, they influence what is possible in other parts of the rural area.
What are we going to do?
On November 17, 2026, we are organizing a meeting with the Southern Agriculture and Horticulture Organization, Brabants Landschap, and the De Dommel Water Board. During this meeting, we will discuss important developments that affect the entire rural area.
After that, we will discuss the results with municipal staff, stakeholders, and the focus group.
Based on this, we will draft an initial version of the environmental program. It is possible that not all topics will have been fully developed at that point. We also expect that some topics will require additional attention depending on the specific area.
