Disaster or crisis

Fortunately, the chances of a major disaster or crisis occurring in your area are very small. Should there be any immediate danger from a disaster or emergency situation, you will be alerted by the siren. If you have NL-Alert set up on your mobile phone, you will also receive a signal from this. Stay as calm as possible, go inside, close doors and windows and turn on the radio or TV to the regional station.

Every first Monday of the month, the sirens are tested at noon.

What to do.

  • Enter the nearest building as soon as possible.
  • Close all doors and windows. Also turn off any ventilation systems.
  • Let people who ring your doorbell take shelter.
  • Warn people who do not notice the siren.
  • Listen to the disaster station. On this station you will get information and instructions from the government. In a disaster in your area, this is the regional broadcaster on radio or TV. In a national disaster, this is Nederland 1 or Radio 1.

If you need to leave your home and surroundings

  • Shut off gas, water and light.
  • Take only the much-needed items with you.
  • Lock your home and verify that your neighbors know an evacuation is taking place.
  • In a large fire, stay low to the ground and leave the building as quickly as possible. Can't do this? Then stand in front of a window where the fire department can see you.

Transportation

  • Include as many others as possible.
  • Listen to traffic information over the radio.
  • Follow the route indicated by the police.
  • Go to the shelter or visit family or friends outside the disaster area.
  • There is special transportation for the needy, elderly and schoolchildren during a disaster or crisis. The institutions (nursing or elderly homes and/or schools) where these people are at the time provide this.

What not to do when the siren goes off?

  • If the siren goes off, never call the national emergency number 1-1-2. Also do not call the local police, fire or ambulance service. The telephone exchanges can then become overloaded. This has serious consequences for getting help started.
  • Do not take your children out of school. Children who are in school should stay there and be taken care of by the school.

Additional information

The government informs you of an emergency situation in your immediate area via NL-alert. You will then receive a message on your cell phone. This message tells you what is going on and what you should do. NL-Alert is an additional means of alert.

From now on, the website BrabantAlert.nl informs you about major incidents, disasters and crises in the municipalities of East Brabant. In addition, the website offers information on how to better prepare for disasters, crises and risks.

What information will you find there?

Is there an incident in your neighborhood? Do you hear a lot of sirens and want to know what is going on? At major incidents, disasters and crises a notification appears on the homepage of BrabantAlert.nl. The alert tells you what is going on and what you can do yourself. The alert is regularly updated with new information as the situation changes. Also if an NL-alert is sent, you will find additional information on BrabantAlert.nl.

Soon there will also be a Brabant Alert App available. You can download it in the appstore of your cell phone or tablet.
