Also next Monday, March 7, at noon, we will test the siren

This is an old post.

Sirens bellow on Monday, March 7, at noon

Every first Monday of the month at noon, all 4278 sirens in the Netherlands are tested. This was also the case on Monday, March 7. Because of the war in Ukraine, unrest could be caused by the sirens going off. Therefore, the government is giving extra notice of the monthly test of the sirens this time.

The sirens are tested on the first Monday of every month so that everyone recognizes the sound in the event of a disaster or major accident. The sound of the sirens lasts for 1 minute and 26 seconds. When the sirens sound longer and several times in a row, there is an alarm. People should then immediately go inside, close doors and windows and turn off electronic ventilation. More information is given via radio or TV from regional emergency stations.

Complaints about not hearing sirens can be reported to the regional fire department in your safety region.

Sirens do not go off on national commemorations or holidays

Sirens will not be tested in June because the first Monday of that month falls on Whit Monday.

NL test message

NL is the government's primary alert tool that alerts and informs Dutch citizens of an emergency situation. On every first Monday in June and December, everyone receives the NL test message on their cell phones. The next NL test message will be on Monday, June 13 around noon.
