Working together to make Nuenen-Zuid a better place

Public spaces in Nuenen-Zuid are set to undergo significant changes in the coming years. The municipality of Nuenen is making the neighborhood safer, greener, and ready for the future. We’re not doing this alone, but together with you. After all, as a resident, business owner, or visitor, you know best what’s going on in the neighborhood. Under the motto “From Initial Consultation to Public Participation,” we’re involving you in the plans from the very beginning.

Why are we getting started?

Nuenen-Zuid is a nice place, but its public spaces are in need of renovation. The main goals are:

  • Less flooding and heat: We’re improving rainwater management and planting more greenery to keep the neighborhood cooler. 
  • Safer Traffic: We’re addressing dangerous spots, reducing through traffic, and making routes safer for cyclists and schoolchildren. 
  • A pleasant neighborhood: We provide plenty of parking spaces and a beautiful environment in which to live, shop, or socialize.

Below is the general master schedule for the entire Nuenen-Zuid Development program.

  1. Remaining tasks: Presentation of the Final Design & administrative decision-making - third quarter of 2027

    In the third quarter of 2027, we expect to be able to present the Final Design, at which time administrative decision-making will take place.

  2. Remaining tasks: Completion of the design phase—first half of 2027

    We expect to complete the design phase in the first half of 2027. This means that the preliminary design will be developed into a Preliminary Design (PD) and a Final Design (FD).

  3. Currently in progress: Focus groupworkshops - Fall 2026

    In the fall of 2026, in-depth working sessions with focus groups will take place.

  4. Completed: Analysis of Input & Finalization of the Customer Requirements Specification (CRS) - Third Quarter 2026

    In the third quarter of 2026, the input received was analyzed and the Customer Requirements Specification (CRS) was finalized.

  5. Completed: Mid-phase – second quarter of 2026

    In the second quarter of 2026, we organized several meetings, distributed an online survey, and led neighborhood walks to gather input.

How can you contribute your ideas?

The municipality follows a transparent three-step plan: 

  1. Step 1 — Gathering Input (Completed): We gathered experiences, concerns, and ideas through meetings, neighborhood walks, and an online survey. All of this input will be compiled into a Customer Requirements Specification (CRS). 
  2. Step 2 — Work (Current Phase): For each project, we form focus groups with residents and business owners. In small working sessions, you will collaborate with urban planners and traffic engineers to help design the initial concept proposals. 
  3. Step 3 — Presentation (Future): Once the designs are complete, we will organize a large informational meeting to present the final design and the response document.
