Nuenen-Zuid Development

Working together to make Nuenen-Zuid a better place

Public spaces in Nuenen-Zuid are set to undergo significant changes in the coming years. The municipality of Nuenen is making the neighborhood safer, greener, and ready for the future. Among other things, we are focusing on the area around the Kernkwartier shopping center, the Brabantring, and the surrounding residential streets.

We don’t do this alone, but together with you. After all, as a resident, business owner, or visitor, you know best what’s going on in the neighborhood. Under the motto “From initial consultation to public participation,” we involve you in the plans at an early stage. On this page, you can read about what’s going to happen and how you can contribute your ideas.

Why are we getting started?

Nuenen-Zuid is a nice place, but its public spaces are in need of improvement. The municipality’s main goals are:

  • Less flooding and heat: we’re improving rainwater management and planting more greenery to keep the neighborhood cooler.
  • Safer traffic: We are addressing dangerous spots, reducing through traffic, and making routes safer for cyclists and schoolchildren.
  • A pleasant neighborhood: we provide plenty of parking spaces and a beautiful environment for living, shopping, or socializing.

Which projects fall under ONZ?

To avoid having to hold separate discussions for each street, the municipality is consolidating all plans into a single program: Development of Nuenen-South (ONZ).

The program currently consists of three parts:

1. Neighborhood Analysis and Traffic

The Kragten consulting firm has conducted a study. The results are currently being reviewed by the municipality. We’d like to know how you feel about traffic in the neighborhood. You can share your thoughts at a meeting or online.

Status: Design phase.

Neighborhood residents will soon receive an invitation to share their ideas!

2. The Kernkwartier and surrounding area

The Kernkwartier is the heart of the neighborhood. We are going to redesign the area around the shopping center and the adjacent residential streets. Now is the perfect time to have your say on green spaces, parking, and the neighborhood’s appearance for decades to come.

Status: Design phase.

You’ll soon have the chance to share your ideas. Be sure to keep an eye on this website!

3. The Brabantring, school zone, and courtyards

The asphalt on Brabantring and part of Heikampen needs to be replaced. At the same time, we are making the school area, the daycare center, and the nearby courtyards (odd-numbered houses 59 through 139) safer. We are doing this in close consultation with the schools and the neighborhood.

Status: Design phase.

Collaboration on this project with the Crijnsschool, Kids Society Erica, and the residents of the courtyards on Heikampen has now begun.

On May 19, we held the first residents’ meeting regarding the school zone and the courtyards on Brabantring. During the meeting, we received many good ideas and comments.

How can you contribute your ideas?

The municipality follows a three-step process:

  • Step 1 — Gathering Input: We’d love to hear about your experiences, concerns, and ideas. We do this through meetings, neighborhood walks, and the digital Map, Maptionnaire. We compile all these ideas into a list of requirements and wishes.
  • Step 2 — Get Involved: For each project, we form a focus group consisting of residents and business owners. In small groups, you’ll work with the designers to help create the initial sketches.
  • Step 3 — Feedback: Once the designs are complete, we’ll organize a large informational meeting. We’ll present the results and explain how we’ve incorporated your ideas. Afterward, we’ll publish a report.
