Nuenen municipality launched the "Nuenen (Fire)Safe" project in 2013. The goal was to reduce the number of fire victims by providing education and installing smoke detectors. In recent years, fire department-trained volunteers installed nearly 3,500 smoke detectors in both rental and owner-occupied homes in Nuenen, Gerwen, Nederwetten and Eeneind. These volunteers also advised on fire safety, on having an escape plan and what are the right places to place detectors. The project officially ended at the end of 2018.

Reporting malfunctions of smoke detectors

As of November 1, 2024, it is no longer possible to sign up for the installation of new smoke detectors or troubleshooting through the municipality of Nuenen and/or the Hobby Center De Dorpswerkplaats.

Only failures of Fire Angel brand smoke detectors - which were installed at the time as part of the Nuenen (Fire)Safe Project - can be reported to the supplier at www.fireangel.nl/garantie. Make sure that the warranty period as stated on the bottom of the smoke detector has not been exceeded.
