Applying for pupil transportation

Are you having trouble logging in for issues surrounding the WMO? Please send an email to adminsoza@dienstdommelvallei.nl.

What is it?

When can you apply for pupil transportation?

You can apply for pupil transportation for children who cannot travel to school independently due to distance or disability. The municipality reimburses a student's transportation costs to and from the home address and the nearest desired school.

Based on the advice of JPH Consult, the municipality assesses whether the student is eligible for transport services and, if so, for which transport services.

You may be eligible for adapted transportation in the following cases:

  • If a mental, physical or sensory disability requires adapted transportation;
  • if the travel time by public transportation exceeds one and a half hours and the travel time can be reduced by 50 percent or more with adapted transportation;
  • if public transportation is lacking and the student cannot travel by bicycle or moped.

Adapted transport for a (special) primary and special education school

A transportation allowance is granted if the distance from the home to the nearest accessible school for:

  • primary education as defined in the Primary Education Act exceeds six kilometers;
  • special primary education as referred to in the Primary Education Act exceeds four kilometers; or
  • special education exceeds four kilometers.

Adapted transportation for secondary (special) education

Is your child unable to travel independently because of a structural physical, mental, sensory or psychological disability? The municipality will reimburse the cost on a mileage reimbursement basis if your child can ride a bicycle with supervision or the municipality will reimburse the cost of public transportation for the child and her/his supervisor.

Consulting JPH Consult

Does your child attend:

  • regular secondary education or secondary special education

And is your child unable to travel independently? Then JPH Consult is called in to provide medical advice on how your child can travel to school. They will then contact you about what documents you need to provide and in what manner.

The transportation facilities

  • mileage allowance for transportation by bicycle
  • reimbursement for public transportation (possibly accompanied)
  • custom transport

Have you indicated that your child can cycle independently? Then the decision will be made by the municipality on this basis and Argonaut Advies B.V. will not be asked for advice.

What to do.

Request

You submit the application form, along with the requested statement, to the municipality. Please read the explanatory notes to the application form beforehand. You can also pick up the form at City Hall.

Attach

If applicable, a so-called 'IB 60 form' from the Tax Office. This shows the taxable income of both parents/caregivers. This is not necessary for pupils attending a school for (secondary) special education.

Own financial contribution

When the pupil attends a (special) elementary school, the municipality may apply a financial threshold. This means:

  • You pay the cost of the first 4 or 6 kilometers yourself. Only the costs above the threshold amount will be reimbursed.
  • The municipality requires you to contribute to the cost according to your ability to pay. This is only possible if the distance between the school and your home is more than 20 kilometers.

Are you entitled to financial compensation? The municipality will tell you how to claim these costs.

Requirements

The application must be submitted by June 1. Your application will be processed before the start of the new school year if you submitted it before June 1. Does the application reach us after June 1? Then you will be notified within 12 weeks.
