International airborne exercise Falcon Leap

From September 9 to 20, 2024, the international airborne exercise Falcon Leap will be held from Eindhoven Air Base. The exercise is organized by the 11 Air Mobile Brigade of the Royal Netherlands Army. The transport aircraft of the Air Mobility Command will provide the airborne transport together with international partners. During this exercise, international cooperation with eight different countries takes center stage. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, a number of aircraft will participate in the commemoration of Operation Market Garden on the Ginkelse Heide near Ede. It is exactly 80 years ago this year that this operation took place. Because of this legendary operation, we in the southern Netherlands have lived in peace and safety for 80 years.

During the first week of the exercise, cargo dropping (Container Delivery System [CDS] drops) will be practiced over the Marnewaard (Groningen) and various locations in the central Netherlands and in Belgium. Dropping cargo is an important task of the Air Mobility Command. A fairly recent example is the dropping of relief supplies over Gaza. Exercises like Falcon Leap are important to be able to carry out these kinds of missions in the future as well.

The second week of the exercise is devoted to dropping paratroopers and cargo. The paratroopers will land at various locations in North Brabant, Gelderland and Groningen.

All aircraft depart from Eindhoven Air Base, where they also land again. During the flights to the training locations, the aircraft fly lower than normal and are therefore more visible and audible. Low flying is an important part of the exercise for the pilots. During this exercise there will be no flying after 23.00 hours.

For the safety of spectators and skydivers, the exact times and locations of parachute jumps will not be released.

Military exercises are carefully prepared. This is essential for the exercising units, but also to relieve the environment of the exercise sites as much as possible. People may still experience inconvenience during this exercise. Any reports can be submitted via the complaint form at www.luchtmacht.nl/geluidshinder.
