Found object
If you have found an item, you can choose to keep it yourself or drop it off at the town hall reception desk.
Value less than €450.00
Is the object worth less than €450.00? Then you may keep it at home. If you choose to do so, you must report this via verlorenofgevonden.nl. Does the owner report within 1 year? Then you will return the object to the owner. If this person does not report, you are the new owner of the object.
Value over €450.00
If the object you have found is worth more than €450.00, you are obliged to hand it over to the municipality. You can do this at the reception desk.
Exception: passport, identity card or driver's license found
To prevent fraud/abuse, different rules apply to a found passport, ID card or driver's license. You may not keep these documents at home or return them to the owner. Return the travel document or driver's license to the reception desk at City Hall.
Lost Object
Have you lost something? Check the website www.verlorenofgevonden.nl. There you can see if your item has been found. Not found? Then make a report.
You can also print the report and use it as proof for your insurance. The lost item may be with the finder or with the municipality. If you have a match, please contact the municipality. We will put you in contact with the finder or have you visit the municipality by appointment. Please bring valid identification.
Lost passport, identity card or driver's license
If your passport, identity card or driver's license is lost or stolen, request a new document from the municipality and sign a statement of loss during the appointment. To do this, make an appointment.
If lost or stolen in the Netherlands, reporting it is not necessary. If your document has disappeared abroad, you must report it to the police abroad for your travel insurance.
