What is it

The municipality has a number of municipal awards. The highest municipal distinction is honorary citizenship of the municipality of Nuenen c.a., with a golden badge/rosette and certificate attached. The honorary citizenship is awarded by the council. The most common municipal distinction, however, is the badge of honor (a medal of honor) in gold, silver or bronze with a badge and certificate attached. These are awarded by the college. The granting of municipal decorations is regulated in the Municipal Decorations Ordinance of the Municipality of Nuenen c.a. 2017.

A municipal decoration is for persons (natural and legal persons) who have merited themselves in a special way for the municipality of Nuenen, Gerwen and Nederwetten.

You can think of:

• Volunteers who make a long-term commitment to organizations in areas such as sports, arts, culture, church life, nature, and so on.
• Associations and organizations celebrating 25th, 50th, or 100th anniversaries or any other anniversary.
• Individuals who have made very special achievements for the benefit of society that go far beyond what can be expected of anyone.

How it works

You begin by completing a brief online application. It is important to have as specific and complete a picture as possible of the nominee's merits. This application ends up with a municipal employee who reviews the application. This employee will contact you to discuss the application and see if additional information is needed. Is there already a date for the possible presentation? During the celebration of an anniversary or during an event?

Keep in mind the following:

• The procedure can take several months.
• A municipal award is supposed to be a surprise.
• Do try to find out if the person would appreciate a municipal award.
• the award process can take several months, so start on time.
• To ensure the privacy of the candidate, no information will be given to you about the considerations in deciding whether or not to award someone a municipal award.
