What is it?

A disabled parking space is a parking space for people with physical disabilities. Other drivers are not allowed to park their cars here.

You can apply for your own disabled parking space near your home or workplace to the municipality. You will then be given a reserved parking space where only the vehicle with your license plate may park.

There is also a possibility to apply for a general disabled parking space. This is possible at a strategic location within the municipality (for example, a disabled parking space near a supermarket or sports hall). If you use a disabled parking space, place your disabled parking permit clearly visible behind your windshield.

How does it work?

You can apply for your own disabled parking space under the following Requirements :

• You are the driver. 
• For a disabled parking space at your residence: you are registered at that address in the Basic Registration of PersonsBRP).
• You hold a valid disabled parking permit.
• You do not have private parking, such as a garage.
• For disabled parking near your workplace: a statement from your employer that you work there.
• The license plate of the vehicle is in your name or in your roommate's name,
  if the license plate is in the name of a leasing company or business, you have a statement from the license plate holder that you are the daily driver.

If you are not the driver yourself, it is not possible to request individual parking.

Process of your application

If you need a handicapped parking space for medical reasons, the municipality will investigate whether it is possible from a traffic point of view. The municipality reviews the situation and whether you meet the Requirements. If necessary, the municipality will contact you. Within 8 weeks we will make a decision. The municipality may extend this period once.

Costs to consider are:

• individual disabled parking space application: €93.60
• issuing the disabled parking card: €29.30

Depending on the location, you should also consider costs for the creation of an individual disabled parking space.
