Several (spatial) projects are underway in the area around Kernkwartier shopping center. These projects are interrelated, which is why the municipality drew up a structural vision for this area. The goals for this area are laid down in it:

• Maintain and strengthen facility levels:
  • A well-functioning neighborhood shopping center
  • Quality space for sports clubs, exercise education and socio-cultural associations
  • An adequate supply of care facilities
• Maintain and enhance the quality of the green structure and public space and its uses (play and exercise)
• Provide space for additional (social) housing development that meets changing needs (aging population, family thinning)
• Contribute to achieving municipal sustainability goals
• Working out the projects in an integral manner and in consultation with stakeholders (residents, initiators and associations) 

The structure vision was adopted by the City Council on April 25, 2019.

Subprojects

Within the Nuenen-Zuid area development we distinguish six subprojects:

1. Green/blue structure: robust green/blue structure as a guiding principle for spatial development, in combination with attractive slow traffic routes and space for playing, moving and meeting.
2. Wederikdreef: redevelopment of school site into residential area. 
3. Vinkenhofjes: space for living in greenery, in deviation with building height in rest of area (2 layers with cap/3 floors) accents up to 4 floors possible.
4. Hongerman search site: for rebuilding or renovating De Hongerman sports hall including space for socio-cultural and/or community facilities.
5. Shopping center: strengthen the function of the shopping center and improve the appearance location.
6. Milestone: search site for residential and/or community facilities on former school site.
