Energy Transition
Energy transition - together in momentum!
The cores, districts and neighborhoods of the municipality of Nuenen are all fine places to live, work and live. Now and in the future. This does require something of us as inhabitants of this municipality, because our current way of living is not good for our planet. After all, we still use a lot of fossil fuels. To ensure that future generations will enjoy living, working and working in this municipality as much as you do, we will have to deal with our energy in a different way. Agreements have been made about this in the National Climate Agreement (2019). It states that in the coming years we will drastically reduce our CO2 emissions: the goal is to reduce our CO2 emissions by more than 95% in 2050 compared to the year 1990. A big task, but if we work together, step by step, we will get it done.
Our Regional Energy Strategy (RES)
To put the agreements of the National Climate Agreement into practice, 30 regions in the Netherlands are making a Regional Energy Strategy (RES). This plan Map for each region the possibilities for alternative heat sources, large-scale energy generation from solar and wind energy and energy saving possibilities. Nuenen is part of the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region (MRE). The RES 1.0 for our region can be viewed on the website www.energieregioMRE.nl.
Switching to renewable heat together
The way we heat our homes and buildings will be different in the future, because we want to stop using fossil fuels. Step by step we are getting rid of natural gas and switching to sustainable alternatives. We call this the heat transition. Tricky? Sometimes yes. Impossible? Certainly not. In the 1950s and 1960s we made the switch from coal to gas. If we work on it together, step by step, we will succeed now.
How will we transition to renewable heat?
In 2020, we conducted a Heat Impact Scan. This paints a picture of the state of affairs in Nuenen. What is our energy consumption like? And what do our homes look like? This helps us determine what actions are needed to arrive at a Heat Transition Vision.
Using the Heat Impact Scan and input from our residents, housing corporations and grid operator Enexis, we drafted the Heat Transition Vision 2021. This was adopted by the City Council on September 30, 2021.
The Heat Transition Vision is the first step toward a natural gas-free Nuenen. It gives us direction for the future. Together with residents, housing corporations, entrepreneurs and building owners we will make District Implementation Plans. In which district the first pilot will start, we will determine that together with the residents.
Getting started with sustainable heating yourself
We won't become natural gas-free overnight. And we don't have to. Before 2030 we want to start in a number of neighborhoods with potential, where we will work together step by step. You can also do a lot yourself, even if you do not live and/or have a business in one of the neighborhoods where we want to start. Curious about the possibilities in your neighborhood? Or what steps you can already take yourself? Then visit the website "Nuenen sustainable heating". Here you can find out what is happening in your area and what you can do yourself to make your home more sustainable.
Solar power or wind power? We'll decide that together
In addition to renewable heat, we also want to generate renewable energy in Nuenen. How? First of all with solar panels on roofs. For homes, but also on larger roofs of business premises or stables. However, solar panels on roofs do not produce enough to provide us all with sustainable electricity. That is why we are investigating whether we can generate sustainable electricity on a larger scale. For example, with solar or wind farms.
Consideration framework for solar or wind farms
In Nuenen we want to fulfill the tasks for generating energy as formulated in the Regional Energy Strategy Metropolis Region Eindhoven. We also want to respond to the initiatives for large-scale energy generation in Nuenen. To this end, the draft policy for large-scale energy generation from solar and wind has been drawn up. The draft policy runs until 2030 with an interim evaluation in 2026. It focuses on no-regret measures (such as energy generation through measures on roofs) and excludes large-scale ground-based energy generation. The draft policy will be available for public inspection for six weeks from March 30, 2023. You can view the document here:
