A postal address is intended for people who are moving to an institution (such as a nursing home or prison), but also for those who do not have a permanent residential address such as a boatman or circus performer. Because they do not have a letterbox, their mail then goes to another address. This could be at an acquaintance or family member's house, for example.

Requesting a letter address

The letter address can be requested by:

  • The person for whom the letter address is intended (letter recipient);
  • The head of the institution where you will live;
  • an adult authorized to do so by the person for whom the letter address is intended,
    for young people under 16 years of age, parents/guardians may do so without the need for authorization.

Requirements

Not everyone is eligible for a letter address. The municipality verifies that you actually do not have a residential address and that you meet the Requirements to use a letter address.

  • You only apply for a letter address with us if this address is in Nuenen.
  • A postal address is always an address in the Netherlands and may not be a postbus .
  • You provide your letter address yourself to organizations other than the government.

Government mail forwarding

The person who receives mail for you and is registered at this address is called the letter address provider. This person (or institution) must make sure you receive government mail. Government mail includes, for example:

  • municipal letters
  • tax forms
  • a polling card
  • a subpoena

No financial impact

As the primary resident, you are not responsible for any debts. There are also no consequences for your Social assistance benefit, municipal taxes, rent or healthcare benefits. A person with a letter address is registered at your address, but not as a resident.

Required documents

  • valid ID of the applicant;
  • valid proof of identity + signed written consent of the main occupant of the letter address;
  • Evidence showing that you have no permanent residence or are staying in an institution.
