Building what Nuenen is asking for
Yesterday was a special day for the Aan 't Zand construction project, as part of the first phase in the Nuenen West neighborhood. Reaching the highest point of the construction of 58 social housing units was celebrated, an important milestone!
All project stakeholders were present at the celebration. Angela Pijnenburg of Wooninc, Mireille Knape of BPD and Alderman Patrick Kok were brought upstairs with a large crane. The flags were hoisted in the top at the end wall. This is a special moment because this is the largest social housing project in Nuenen-West so far. The neighborhood will be realized in phases and will eventually have about 1,600 homes.
According to the schedule, the 58 social housing units at Aan 't Zand will be delivered by the contractor to Wooninc in mid-July 2024, i.e. before the construction holiday. A few weeks later, the tenants can move into their new homes. At that time, the paths, parking spaces and grass will have been laid by the developer, BPD. Planting of the remaining greenery will follow in the fall.
Alderman Patrick Kok has held talks with Nuenen-West builders about converting existing plans to more affordable homes. Bouwfonds BPD, which is responsible for the development of Nuenen-West, is open to such talks, according to Kok. "Although it is difficult to change existing zoning plans, which are very strict. Still, with some creativity, some things are possible."
For example, BPD and Wooninc. are working on a plan for 30 single-family homes on a site where larger houses were previously planned, generating enthusiasm from Kok. "We have to be flexible and build what Nuenen needs. After all, the housing market is constantly changing."
