Policy large-scale power generation from solar and wind

In the coming years, the municipality of Nuenen will focus on No-regret measures for the reprocessing of renewable energy from natural sources.

In the Large-scale energy generation from solar and wind policy, we provide frameworks for large-scale energy generation. We want to set an example and inform and support our residents and entrepreneurs in the field of energy transition. Therefore, in the coming period we will specifically focus on harnessing solar energy on rooftops, with our short-term focus being on the following points:

  1. We encourage the maximum use of suitable and available roof area and other no-regret measures, to generate energy sustainably.
  2. We follow developments in energy storage, exchange and conversion and support initiatives where these technologies are being applied.
  3. We promote financial involvement in renewable energy generation.

National Climate Agreement

The choices we have made stem from global and European agreements. Based on these agreements, the Dutch government has the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by at least 49% by 2030 compared to 1990 and to be virtually CO2 neutral by 2050. The steps needed to achieve these goals are outlined in the National Climate Agreement. This is a huge societal challenge:

  • In the area of mobility, we face several challenges;
  • We need to start using other fuels;
  • Heating our homes can no longer depend on natural gas.
  • Electricity generation should be mainly from solar, wind and possibly biomass.

Achieving the goals requires an energy transition, which is now in full swing. We are becoming increasingly aware that our current way of generating energy is not fit for the future. Fossil fuels are running out and burning oil, gas and coal is causing unsustainable global warming with serious negative consequences.

Role of municipality in energy transition

Municipalities have an important governing role in energy transition.

  1. Realize the bid from the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) in the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region (MRE)
  2. Creating a municipal heat plan
  3. Having a climate stress test performed
