2027 Budget: Staying the Course and Working Toward a Vision for the Future

By presenting the 2027 program budget to the city council, the Nuenen municipal executive is laying a solid financial foundation for decision-making. The administration anticipates major financial challenges in the coming years and is preparing for them by focusing on stability through a policy-neutral budget. In addition, work is underway on a Vision for the Future. This long-term plan will show, over the course of 2027, how the commitment of people and resources will contribute to the goal on the horizon. All of this is being done with a view to maintaining a financially sound situation.

“For the coming year, Nuenen is presenting a structurally balanced budget. The financial implications of the ambitions outlined in the vision-for-the-future process will be detailed in the next budget.” — Marko van Dalen, Finance Alderman

A budget with few policy initiatives

A budget with few new policies does not mean we will be standing still in 2027. We will continue on our current course, working to create a municipality where it is pleasant to live and work. In 2027, the implementation and completion of major projects will receive full attention. For example, the completion of the renovation of the Hongerman sports hall is a key priority. There will also be a strong focus on implementing the Bundelroutes in light of mobility needs. Housing construction and the challenges posed by grid congestion will also require full attention in 2027. On the social front, the municipality of Nuenen aims to focus on—and maintain its focus on—social resilience: how can we work together to stay informed about what’s happening in our neighborhoods and how can we look out for one another? Being visible and approachable to our residents and business owners is, and will remain, the overarching priority.

Vision for the Future as a Strategic Framework

The coalition agreement “Verantwoord Vooruit” sets out a long-term vision that guides Nuenen’s development. This vision serves as a strategic framework and brings coherence to issues such as safety, housing, amenities, mobility,

the economy, Health , and the living environment. The vision, which includes strategic choices, serves as a guiding framework but also allows room to adapt to changing circumstances. The vision is based on existing plans, and stakeholders are also being asked to contribute through a participatory process. The vision for the future is expected to be presented to the city council in the summer of 2027.

Municipal taxes

The municipal executive is proposing to the city council that the municipality’s revenue from property tax (OZB) remain at the same level as in 2026. An inflation adjustment of 3.2% will be added to this amount. The council sets the property tax rates in December. These rates depend on the increase in the value of homes and businesses, which will not be known until later in the year. The waste collection fee will increase in 2027 from €351 to €372. This amount is based on 8 collections of the general waste container and 7 collections of the 140-liter organic waste container.

City Council Resolution

On October 15, 2026, an exploratory council meeting will be held, during which the city council will discuss its views on the budget. On November 5, the city council will vote on the budget. You are welcome to attend the meetings. You can also follow the meetings live online via the council information website at.
