Address Research
If someone is registered at an address but (it is suspected) that they no longer live there, the municipality may initiate an address search. The municipality will then search for someone's current residential or residence address.
Requirements
The owner, tenant or co-occupant of the property can initiate the address search. You can also revoke an address search.
In the following cases, you can request an address search from the municipality:
- Someone is registered at your address who does not live there.
- Someone has a letter address at your address and you can no longer reach that person.
- Someone has a letter address at your address, but you want to revoke your permission for the letter address.
Mail return to sender
We advise you to return unopened mail for people who do not live at your address. To do this, use a pen to put a cross through the address information. Mark the envelope "Departed - Return to sender. If you know the correct address of the person to whom the letter is addressed, write this on the envelope as well.
Then put the letter in the mail through your nearest central mailbox. The letter goes back to the sender anyway, regardless of whether you put the correct address on it. That way the sender knows not to send mail to this address anymore.
Municipal Post
During an address investigation, we still send letters to the person under investigation. The municipality is required by law to write to persons at their last known address. You can also return this mail to sender.
Required documents
- Your valid ID;
- proof that you are the owner or tenant of the property (for example, a purchase or rental contract);
- name, date of birth, e-mail address and/or telephone number of the person involved (if known to you).
