Change in the management of Lobroec

We would like to inform you of a change in the management of Lobroec.

In recent years, sheep have been present at this location year-round to graze on the vegetation. This is about to change. The sheep will no longer be there all the time. From now on, they will be brought in three times a year, for shorter periods, to graze on the lobroec.

This change was made deliberately, in consultation with the shepherd. If sheep remain in one place for too long, it can have adverse effects. Sheep that graze in the same spot for extended periods require deworming more frequently. The residues from these treatments end up in the soil via manure and can be harmful to soil life.

Spreading grazing throughout the year creates greater plant diversity. It also gives the land a chance to recover in between grazing periods. This makes the management of the area healthier and more sustainable.

The municipality plans to continue using the sheep in this way in the coming years. The sheep will therefore remain an important part of the management of Lobroec.
