Fireworks during New Year's Eve 2025-2026
This year, you are allowed to set off fireworks in the municipality of Nuenen during New Year's Eve 2025-2026. Since 2020, there has been a nationwide ban on firecrackers and rockets. Read more on the Rijksoverheid website. So choose decorative fireworks, children's fireworks, or novelty fireworks. Buy fireworks from a legal fireworks store with a license.
The sales days are Monday, December 29, Tuesday, December 30, and Wednesday, December 31. The minimum age for purchasing fireworks is 12, 16, or 18 years old. The minimum age depends on the type of fireworks. Only retailers with a license from the municipality are allowed to sell fireworks. Any fireworks you buy elsewhere are illegal. Store fireworks in a dry and cool place, out of the reach of children. Found illegal fireworks? Then you are liable to prosecution!
Setting off fireworks
Setting off fireworks is only allowed between December 31, 6 p.m. and January 1, 2 a.m. Please be mindful of your safety and consider people and animals around you. For more information on fireworks penalties, read more on the Rijksoverheid website.
Fireworks nuisance?
If you experience a nuisance from fireworks or suspect someone is in possession of illegal fireworks, please do the following:
Report this to the police at 0900-8844.
Would you rather remain anonymous? Then call Report Crime Anonymously at 0800-7000.
In threatening/emergency situations call 112.
Cleaning up fireworks
The municipality does not come to sweep the streets after the turn of the year. Our residents are expected to clean up their own fireworks debris after the turn of the year. Put the fireworks waste in a sealed garbage bag. The extinguished (and properly extinguished) fireworks may simply be put in the residual waste. In fact, like last year, there are no municipal collection points for fireworks waste this year.
Fireworks waste can be handed in free of charge at the environmental street in Nuenen. Health that it is packed in a garbage bag.
Working together to ensure a safe turn of the year
New Year's Eve is a festive evening and night for many people. However you celebrate this night, it is important to consider the risks and think about the safety and health of people and animals around you. This is how we make it a fun and safe New Year's Eve together!
During New Year's Eve, emergency services, such as the emergency room, police, fire department and ambulance, are ready for emergencies. That's a nice idea. But safety starts with all of us. That's why the emergency services are sharing tips so you know what you can do to contribute to a safe situation.
Who do you call when?
To ensure that 112 remains free for real emergencies, it's good to know who to call for what:
- Fireworks damage to home or garden:
Try to temporarily repair the damage yourself. If necessary, contact your insurance company. - Damage to furniture in public spaces:
Report damage, such as a broken trash can or bus shelter, to the municipality. This can often be done through a form on the municipality's website, an app or by phone. - Small fire outside in a free environment:
Call 0900-0904 (no emergency, but fire department needed). For example, fire in a vacant trash can. - Nuisance from fireworks, causers known:
Report this to the police via politie.nl/fuurwerk or call 0900-8844 (no urgency, but police). - Fire, immediate danger to life or doubt:
Always call 112. The emergency room will send the appropriate emergency services.
