New vision social realm: "Equal in opportunities, different in attention"

On November 7, 2024, the Nuenen City Council adopted the Nuenen social domain policy framework "Equal in opportunities, difference in attention." The policy framework is an update of the vision social domain "Personal and close by. With this new vision, the municipality can respond to current care issues and themes and prepare for future challenges, such as inclusiveness and rising costs.

Why an update?

There are several trends and developments to which the previous vision social domain no longer connected well. These trends and developments require new frameworks that we want to use when drawing up policy, think of Youth Aid, labor participation or support to participate in society. The new policy framework responds to this; it provides a framework and direction for policy and implementation.

Social domain vision in brief

The residents of the municipality of Nuenen are a strong and involved community. We care for each other, look out for each other, everyone participates and is important. Residents take charge of their own lives, help each other, and can arrange as much as possible themselves. Together we work on a society where everyone can develop, has a place and can participate.

How did the new vision come about?

The new vision was created in cooperation with the city council, the municipal executive committee, social organizations, housing corporations, residents (young and old), professionals from the field, the social domain advisory council, general practitioners, youth doctors and employees of the municipality. It shows that it is a widely supported vision.

What did we do?

  • In several sessions, we talked with the City Council about what we think is important.
  • Our community partners were already involved in the analysis for the creation of the residential care vision. These stakeholders contributed to the frameworks in line with trends and developments.
  • Elementary school children from grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 were able to contribute ideas via a drawing contest on what they think could or should be better in the municipality of Nuenen.

Nuenen youth expressed their opinions in an online survey. Input from the included playgrounds, party, culture, sports and taking care of each other.

Alderman Niels Wouters:

What you focus attention on, that's where energy flows. Whether you do it consciously or unconsciously: it grows. The basis of the vision for our social domain is appropriate attention. Attention to: opportunities, happiness, well-being, safety, development, work and financial stability. Attention for: each other, being able to participate fully, being and becoming who you want to be and having control over your own life in Nuenen."
