Extension of crisis emergency shelter for 3 months

The college of mayor and aldermen of the municipality of Nuenen has decided to extend the crisis emergency shelter of up to 50 asylum seekers in the courtyard of the town hall once for three months, until July 27, 2024.

Beforehand, the council asked residents of 125 surrounding addresses for their reaction to a possible extension. In response, 27 people responded. The general trend of the responses received from local residents is positive. There is appreciation for the shelter and the residents of the crisis emergency shelter do not cause any nuisance. Some local residents have informed the municipality that they are fundamentally opposed to an extension because it was promised in advance that the crisis emergency shelter would be for 3 months.

An important condition for an extension was that the noise and odor pollution from the diesel generator supplying power to the crisis emergency shelter would be eliminated. That condition is being met: a battery pack will be connected to the power supply of the town hall, providing power to the crisis emergency shelter. Installation of this new power supply will take place at the end of April.

Local residents received a letter about the extension of the crisis emergency shelter.
