Your Personal Data Held by the Government (BRP)

The municipality maintains residents' personal data in the Basic Register of Persons ( ) (BRP). This includes, for example, name, date of birth, address, residence permit, passport information, children, marital status, and nationality. 

The municipality needs this information when, for example, you get married or when your passport expires. If necessary, the municipality may also share your information with other government agencies, such as the Tax Authority or the police, or with organizations such as pension funds and housing authorities.

Viewing Your Personal Data: The List of Personal Data 

You can check for yourself what information about you is in the Basic Register of Persons and have any errors corrected. This helps keep the information in the Basic Register of Persons accurate and reliable. 

  1. View Online 
    • Log in at MijnOverheid; 
    • Select "Identity" 

    • Click on "Personal Information." 

  2. A paper copy of your records
    We can provide you with a personal data summary. This is a paper copy of all the information about you that is recorded in the Basic Registration of Persons. To do this, we first verify your identity. This helps us prevent personal data from ending up in the wrong hands. 

Receive a list of people automatically 

The municipality automatically sends a list of names by mail: 

  • after an initial registration in the Netherlands;
  • when relocating from abroad;
  • after the birth of a child.

In these cases, you do not need to request a list of individuals yourself. 

Who is eligible to request a list of individuals? 

For children under the age of 16, parents, guardians, or caregivers may request a list of individuals. For someone under guardianship, the guardian may do so.

  • Please check in at the front desk during business hours.
    Please note: This is not available on Mondays and Tuesdays between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  
  • Please bring a valid form of identification. 

Please note: Your personal data list is for your own reference only; it is not a formal document. If an organization (such as a housing authority) requests an extract of your personal data, it is referring to an extract from the BRP. 

Incorrect information: Submit a correction request 

Is your information incorrect or incomplete? If so, you can ask the municipality to correct it.
This is officially called a request for correction. 

Please note: This requires official supporting documents, which often must also bear special stamps (legalization or apostille).  

The municipality may not be able or authorized to update your information. If you disagree with this decision, you can file an objection.
