Expansion of the current shelter on the Vrouwkensakker

The harrowing war in Ukraine has been going on for almost a year now. And adults and children are still fleeing the violence of war every day. Municipalities are doing their best to provide shelter for these refugees. So too in Nuenen. The municipality is therefore expanding the reception location at the Vrouwkensakker. We expect to start the internal renovation of the classrooms in March and aim to complete the renovation by July at the latest.

Reception of Ukrainians in Nuenen

Since June 2, 2022, the municipality of Nuenen has been hosting Ukrainian refugees at the municipal reception site on Vrouwkensakker. Housing foundation Helpt Elkander has made the former school building available for this purpose. As a housing foundation, Helpt Elkander considers it important to contribute to the reception of Ukrainian refugees. To meet the growing demand for reception in the Security Region Brabant-Zuidoost, the municipality of Nuenen and Helpt Elkander have together explored the possibilities of expanding the existing reception location. The classrooms in the old part of the school building on the Vrouwkensakker have been found suitable, after renovation, to accommodate additional refugees. The municipality is taking care of the renovation.

Atelier Nuenen

The classrooms in question are currently in use by Atelier Nuenen. Helpt Elkander has found a good alternative location for the painting collective in the support center at Goudvinkhof 12A. The current users of the support center will then be housed in the Jo van Dijkhof meeting room.

Renovation

We are very happy that the Ukrainian refugees can be received at this location in Nuenen. Coordinator Mirjam de Groot will also be the point of contact for the new residents of the Vrouwkensakker. We want to offer these people a warm and safe home as soon as possible. We expect to start the internal renovation of the classrooms in March and aim to complete the renovation by July at the latest. We expect that any inconvenience during the remodel will be kept to a minimum.
