Successful start of pilot neighborhood work Gerwen for better living environment for elderly and vulnerable people

On December 21, the working group 'Prettig Ouder Worden in Gerwen begint nu' and the Municipality of Nuenen signed a cooperation agreement for a pilot Neighborhood-oriented Work. This cooperation marks an important step toward a better living environment for all Gerwen residents.

The project plan includes the deployment of a village supporter, the establishment of a meeting point, and the launch of the supporting ICT platform www.gerwen-online.nl. This aims to identify requests for help more quickly and resolve them as much as possible within the community itself. Where necessary, professional support is deployed to supplement the efforts of the elderly themselves, their immediate environment and/or the community. In this way it should be possible for people to continue living in their familiar surroundings for longer while retaining their own control. The village support person plays a key role here as an accessible point of contact, familiar with the local community.

On Jan. 8, Alderman Niels Wouters kicked off the pilot, emphasizing how this collaboration contributes to improving living conditions in Gerwen.

The pilot is the result of the Nuenen City Council's long-held desire to promote neighborhood-oriented work. The steering committee, consisting of representatives of the working group and the municipality, will evaluate and adjust the project during the next two years.

The municipality makes budget available for the village supporter and the expansion of the meeting point in Gerwen. Coöperatie OnsNet Nuenen is providing financial support for the development of the ICT platform.

The working group, consisting of the Werkgroep Leefbaar Gerwen, Senergiek, Coöperatie OnsNet Nuenen and Oud is In, actively involved Gerwen residents in developing the plans in the first half of 2022.
