Research drilling for geothermal heat in Eindhoven region
SCAN (Seismic Campaign Geothermal Netherlands) has recently been searching the region around Eindhoven for a suitable location for a temporary exploration well for geothermal energy. We had two locations in mind: a plot in the hamlet of Stad van Gerwen in the municipality of Nuenen and a plot on Dirk Noordhoflaan in the municipality of Eindhoven. After further investigation, the choice fell on the location in Stad van Gerwen.
The major advantage of this location is that the "Breda sands" (the primary target to be explored) are expected to be thicker here than at the other site. This increases the chances of finding a reservoir suitable for geothermal energy. Because subsurface strata often extend far into the ground, this survey drilling provides information relevant to the eastern half of the province of North Brabant and central Limburg.
Continued
Once all permits have been granted, a schedule is drawn up. We take several factors into account, such as the order in which the various SCAN wells (in other areas of the Netherlands) will be drilled and which season for the individual wells is most convenient and feasible.
Information Evening
After the summer vacations, we will organize an information evening (the date will be announced later) for residents, businesses and other interested parties. Various specialists will be present, such as geologists, drilling experts and experts who can tell more about the permit process. Representatives of the municipality of Nuenen and the province of North Brabant are also expected to be present.
