Signing board agreement express bicycle route Gemert - Eindhoven

In early April 2025 the municipalities of Nuenen, Eindhoven, Laarbeek, Gemert-Bakel and the province of North Brabant signed the Administrative Agreement (BOK) for the express cycle route between Gemert and Eindhoven. This agreement contains agreements on the financing and realization of the express cycle route. Alderman Sandor Löwik put his signature on behalf of the municipality of Nuenen.

Optimal bicycle route

The participating municipalities and the province investigated the optimal location of the bicycle route. This resulted in a design (so-called preferred route) that runs largely parallel to the provincial road N615 (between Gerwen and the N272 near Beek en Donk), which is why the route is also called F615. The design for this was presented at walk-in meetings last year and has now been agreed upon by the municipalities and the province. So the agreements are now fixed in the BOK. The BOK also states that some choices will still have to be made at Laarbeek, but broadly speaking the parties agree on what the route will look like. The province is making the realization possible with a financial contribution.

Planning follow-up

The express bicycle route will be worked out, contracted out and realized in the coming years. This will be done per road manager (i.e. by the municipality and province concerned), but in cooperation and coordination with each other. Stakeholders will be involved in the development of the detailed plan in order to better meet the wishes of the user and the environment. The components of the express cycle route can be put into use successively between the end of 2026 and 2028.

Why this express bicycle route?

Good bicycle connections are attractive for use on somewhat longer distances, from 15 to 30 kilometers. The total length of the route between Gemert and Eindhoven is about 22 km. The express bicycle route is also intended to connect the cores between Gemert and Eindhoven (i.e. Beek en Donk, Lieshout, Aarle-Rixtel, Gerwen). Ultimately, the express bicycle routes form a large network with in our part of the region the F58/ Wilhelminakanaal, Helmond - Eindhoven and F270/ Gemert - Helmond.

In Nuenen, part of the route (including location of tunnels) has already been established in the preferred alternative (VKA) Bundelroutes. The function of the Opwettenseweg within the structure of Nuenen and Nuenen-West has also been established (zoning plan).
