Distinction for Pierre van Mierlo

Mayor Maarten Houben will present the bronze medal of honor of the municipality of Nuenen to Mr. Pierre van Mierlo (77) on Friday evening, January 12, 2024, at 7 p.m. He has dedicated himself for 20 years as technical advisor at the Nuenen Sports Parks Maintenance Foundation (B.O.S.N.). He has resigned as of January 1 to focus on home care tasks. The reception for this presentation is at 6:55 p.m. at Watermolen van Opwetten, Opwettenseweg 203 in Nuenen.

For the past 20 years, Mr. Pierre van Mierlo has volunteered about 15 to 20 hours a week as a technical advisor for the B.O.S.N. foundation. He was responsible for the management and maintenance of greenery and the maintenance of the accommodations of four sports parks: namely, for korfball club NKV and soccer clubs RKGSV, RKSV Nuenen and RKVV Nederwetten. He has done this volunteer work so well that about 2,500 members are able to play their sports every week.

He was the point of contact for contractors and associations and municipality on technical issues related to fields and buildings. He was responsible for tendering the maintenance of greenery/drainage of the sports parks. He controlled the execution and reported to the board. He inspected the buildings and fields. In addition to all these duties, he was also a consul for the KNVB. In that role, he was responsible for inspecting the fields at the soccer clubs during inclement weather.

The associations have benefited greatly from his expertise, for example in 2008 during the relocation of RKSV Nuenen's sports park from the Luistruik to Oude Landen. But also in the construction of artificial turf in 2015. In 2019 with the construction of the hybrid fields at RKGSV and Nederwetten. In 2020, he provided technical input for the replacement of the artificial turf on the fields of NKV and RKSV Nuenen.

With this bronze municipal award, the municipal government, on behalf of all residents in general and the korfball and soccer players among us in particular, would like to express its appreciation and gratitude.
