Nuenen offers crisis emergency shelter for three months

It will not have escaped your notice that the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) has an acute shortage of reception places. They cannot accommodate every asylum seeker currently residing in the Netherlands. The Minister of Justice and Security has asked all municipalities in the Netherlands to make crisis emergency shelter possible.

The municipality of Nuenen considers it its social responsibility to offer help to people who have fled war and violence. Therefore, the college of B&W has decided to provide crisis emergency shelter for 50 asylum seekers for three months. The asylum seekers will be housed in residential containers and tents in the courtyard of the city hall. Furnishing of the location will take place immediately after the turn of the year. The municipality expects to receive the refugees soon after. (This deadline has been adjusted to 23/12/2023 based on new information from our suppliers).

Local residents were informed of the decision by letter and invited to a meeting on Friday, Dec. 22.
