New underground cable connection Eindhoven-East - Maarheeze

A new, underground cable connection will be built between the high-voltage substations Eindhoven-Oost and Maarheeze. We are doing this because the demand for electricity in North Brabant is now greater than the existing electricity grid can provide. TenneT is currently investigating exactly where the cables can go.

Not enough space on the power grid

Throughout the Netherlands and therefore also in North Brabant, more and more electricity is being generated and used. As a result, there is too little space on the existing electricity grid. The grid must therefore be expanded. Therefore, a new underground 150 kV connection is being made. This connection is necessary to maintain the reliability of electricity in the region.

The role of North Brabant province

In this project, the province of North Brabant has taken over the authority from the municipalities of Eindhoven, Nuenen, Someren, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende and Cranendonck. This means that the province is responsible for ensuring that this cable link is eventually established. Network operator TenneT is the initiator of the project. This means that they own the cable connection and are carrying out all the work. TenneT also ensures that stakeholders are properly involved in the project.
