Dry January: A month without alcohol
Dry January is an initiative in which you do not drink alcohol for 31 days in January. It offers a moment to reflect on your drinking habits and often has positive effects, such as better sleep, more energy, and greater mental clarity. For some people, it can also provide insight into a possible dependency. In that case, it is important to seek help. Dry January is therefore an accessible way to become more conscious of your health and alcohol consumption and to start the year fresh.
A challenge like this always sounds fun, but sticking with it can be tough. So here are some handy tips to help you persevere:
- Find a colleague or friend with whom you can agree not to drink alcohol for one month. It is easier to persevere with a partner.
- Tell your friends and family that you are not drinking for a month. Friends can help you by buying non-alcoholic drinks when you meet up.
- Difficult moment? Take the car. If you are the designated driver, you have an extra reason not to drink alcohol.
- Reward yourself! Keep track of how many days you have gone without drinking alcohol and think of something to reward yourself with in between.
Are you up for the challenge?!
