Street Naming Commission

The Street Naming Committee provides solicited and unsolicited advice to the mayor and aldermen. This concerns advice on the use and selection of names for public space in the municipality of Nuenen ca. Think of names for (new) streets, roads, squares, grounds, parks, districts, neighbourhoods and sub-plans. The committee also provides advice on naming parts of public space or municipal buildings.

This is important because project developers often come up with and use project names themselves. Sometimes people use those names as if they were officially established by the municipality.

Choosing a name for a street or district is done carefully. When choosing a name, the municipality prefers to look at the history of the area, the folk culture and old names of, for example, pieces of land or waterways.

If a street is named after a person, it is usually someone who has done something important for the municipality of Nuenen. This could be in the historical, administrative, scientific or social field.

The members of the Street Naming Committee are all members of the Heritage Association De Drijehornick Nuenen-Gerwen-Nederwetten:

Roland van Pareren (chairman)
Louis Bressers (member)
Ton Neijts (member)
Miranda Stolk (administrative secretary)
